WALKING HOLIDAY IRELAND Launches website to help Dutch Walking Tourist Discover New Historic Treasures In The North-east Of Ireland
Cliff and Louise Wayenberg have recently launched www.walkingholidayireland.ie to provide self guided and guided walking holidays to tourists visiting the Cooley and Mourne Mountains. As outdoors enthusiasts they were both amazed that this region was overlooked by all but knowledgable Irish hillwalkers.
Walking Holiday Ireland currently provide a number of packages from €159.- that include accommodation, transfers and self guided hill walks with varying lengths and degrees of difficulty.
Cliff Wayenberg is a Dutchman who has lived in Ireland for the past 17 years and together with his wife Louise and their children have settled in Blackrock, a small village on the coast just south of Dundalk. Cliff has a background in customer care and has worked for a number of key multi-nationals. Louise has a background in healthcare management.
Based in County Louth, also known as ‘The Land of Legends’. This is a County steeped in myth, legend and history, going back to the pre-historical days of the Táin Bó Cúailnge (Cooley Cattle Raid) and Cú Chulainn. Later it saw the influence of the Vikings as seen in the name of Carlingford Lough and the recently discovered lost Viking longphort of Linn Duachaill, Anngassan. There are a number of historic sites in the county, including religious sites at Monasterboice and Mellifont Abbey. They are also just a short drive from the Boyne valley which has the ‘Battle of the Boyne’ visitors centre and museum as well as the Newgrange Mesolithic monument. This rich historic and Mythological backdrop to a fantastic hillwalking region has allowed them to create a unique product compared to the rest of Ireland which has a well established and recognised hill-walking market.
Using their knowledge of the dutch market and Cliff’s ability to speak the language the initial focus is on the Dutch and Belgian hill walkers that have yet to discover the hill walking region of Louth, south Armagh and County Down.
